The 2011 place name boundaries were based on existing spatial layers of proclaimed suburb boundaries from municipalities, point and attribute data from the dwelling frame project, as well as other existing polygon-based place name layers from private entities or municipalities. In urban areas, names were mostly verified against the attributes from the erven cadastre. The place name spatial layers fit within the boundaries of the administrative boundaries used in South Africa as defined by the M</SPAN><SPAN>unicipal Demarcation Board.</SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN /></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN>Sub-places are</SPAN><SPAN /><SPAN>sections of M</SPAN><SPAN>ain Places</SPAN><SPAN>s i.e. sub-places (SPs) that uses for example informal settlement-, suburb-, small holding-, unit-, block-, section-, and sub-village names.
