In demarcating small areas<\/SPAN>, the process aimed to ensure that small areas would ideally be<\/SPAN>:<\/SPAN><\/P>

  • as small as possible in terms of physical area and population size, <\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

  • as compact in shape as possible, <\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

  • as homogeneous in characteristics as possible, and <\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

  • fall within administrative boundaries. <\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI><\/UL>

    Specifications for demarcating the small areas for the 2011 census were as follows:<\/SPAN><\/P>

    • Problems identified with the 2001 small areas, <\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>

    • Size: <\/SPAN><\/P>

      • E<\/SPAN>A and place name total population size, <\/SPAN><\/P><\/LI>
